The Quotes submenu of the Convert menu lets you convert between straight quotes, smart quotes, and primes. Straight quotes are the quotes that you can type on your keyboard. Smart quotes are typographic quotes such as the high commas and turned high commas in English texts. They are called “smart quotes” because some applications are “smart” enough to automatically replace straight quotes with typographic quotes. EditPad is particularly smart in this area as it supports many different quotation styles as well as primes. Primes are symbols used to indicate units such as feet, inches, minutes, and seconds.
